American Bar Association Commission on Youth at Risk
The American Bar Association (ABA) Commission on Youth at Risk, concerned with the problems of youth, works to enhance evidence–based prevention, intervention, and treatment programs for youth and their families. In collaboration with government agencies and education, medical, law enforcement, foster care, and youth service organizations, the Commission endeavors to improve state and federal laws that address troubled youth, enhance judicial practices and structures, and expand quality lawyering that addresses youth at high risk of entering juvenile and criminal systems.

Annie E. Casey Foundation fosters public policies, human-service reforms, and community supports that more effectively meet the needs of today’s vulnerable children and families. Casey Family Services, the direct service agency of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, is a fully licensed and accredited non-profit child welfare agency providing a broad range of programs to meet the changing needs of vulnerable children and families. California Youth Connection

Crittenton Services of Greater Washington
Established in 1895, Crittenton Services of Greater Washington (CSGW) has been responding to the needs of adolescent girls, low income pregnant women, and teen mothers in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Kids Are Waiting: Fix Foster Care Now
Kids Are Waiting: Fix Foster Care Now is a national campaign dedicated to ensuring that all children in foster care have the safe, permanent families they deserve by reforming the federal financing structure that governs our foster care system. It is a collaboration of more than 20 leading child welfare, adoption, family, judicial, and other organizations. Led by The Pew Charitable Trusts, local, state, and national partners work together so that vulnerable children don’t spend their childhoods waiting for the families they deserve. The Kids Are Waiting campaign raises awareness about the need for federal foster care financing reform through research, outreach, and advocacy.

National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy
National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is a nonprofit, nonpartisan initiative supported almost entirely by private donations. Its mission is to improve the well-being of children, youth, and families by reducing teen pregnancy. Its goal is to reduce the rate of teen pregnancy by one third between 2006 and 2015.

National CASA Association
The National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association, together with its state and local members, supports and promotes court–appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children so they can thrive in safe, permanent homes. CASA has grown to a network of more than 50,000 volunteers that serve 225,000 abused and neglected children through more than 900 local program offices nationwide. Advocates, also known as volunteer guardians ad litem, are appointed members of the court. Judges rely on the information these trusted advocates present.

The National Crittenton Foundation
The National Crittenton Foundation is an organization focused on at–risk and system–involved girls, young women, and their families, with 124 years of experience watching their irrepressible spirit, smarts, and drive conquer daunting odds stacked against them. The foundation realizes that complex factors such as racism, sexism, and poverty – coupled with social issues such as domestic violence, child maltreatment, substance abuse, and mental illness – result in poor outcomes. It works in collaboration with the Crittenton family of agencies, girls, young women, and partners to address root causes and symptoms.

Street Law
Street Law is practical, participatory education about law, democracy, and human rights. A unique blend of content and methodology, Street Law uses techniques that promote cooperative learning, critical thinking, and the ability to participate in a democratic society. For 30 years, Street Law’s programs and curricula have promoted knowledge of legal rights and responsibilities, engagement in the democratic process, and belief in the rule of law, among both youth and adults.

Youth Communication
Youth Communication helps teenagers develop their reading and writing skills so they can acquire the information they need to make thoughtful choices about their lives. Youth Communication trains teens in journalism and related skills; publishes magazines, books, and other materials written and illustrated by young people; and encourages teens and the adults who work with them to use its publications to stimulate reading, writing, discussion, and reflection. Youth Communication publishes New Youth Connections, Represent, and Rise, as well as offering workshops and lesson plans for educators.

Helping Teens Help Themselves

The Healthy Teen Network recently released, “Helping Teens Help Themselves." Pregnant and parenting teens exiting foster care face the challenge of trying to raise a child, often without a network. Access to supportive housing programs is one way to provide shelter and the social supports necessary for successful transitions. Healthy Teen Network’s blueprint represents a multi-year, multidisciplinary approach to increase supportive housing options for pregnant and parenting teens exiting foster care.
